April
Spring, dates will follow. Ships of Ribe.
Ribe’s glorious past as a harbour town and home of a great merchant fleet is not the first, tourists and inhabitants see, when walking around town and the old harbour, Skibbroen. Even after the harbour stopped functioning physically, ships were still registered in Ribe. This exhibition tells about the ships, registered in Ribe since the middle of the 1800s until today.
Based on the story of the harbour, the ships and trade until 1850, the exhibition gives you an impression of the time after that, especially about the harbour and Esbjerg as heir. See how Ribe harbour’s last period as an active merchant harbour looked like, how the ship holders were connected to Ribe, how the ship sizes developed and which ships still are registered in Ribe. The exhibition is presented as cooperation between Ribe Public Library and Southwestern Museums.
