Saturday Homage with gala dinner
Celebration of two of the great Danish pioneers in animation art:
88-year old Børge Ring, born in Ribe as the son of the famous composer Oluf Ring, has lived in Holland for many years. Børge Ring is one of the great names in the international world of animation. As early as in 1940, Børge Ring became a professional jazz musician, guitarist and bassist. He played as a member of Svend Asmussen’s orchestra for some years and is present on several records with the hottest names back then, such as Leo Mathisen. However, his interest in cartoons was always present, and besides his life as a musician he tried to evolve as an animator on commercial films for Gutenberghus. In 1952 he left Denmark and his music career and was offered a position as sketcher and animator with Marten Toonder Film in Amsterdam.
He has travelled and worked as a film animator several places, and his own films have also given him several awards on festivals all over the world.
In the program of the night, Jørgen Vestergaards film will be presented:
”BØRGE RING – film animator and jazz musician”, as well as a small compilation of Børge Ring’s best films, e. g.:  ”Anna & Bella” from 1984, for which he won an Oscar, and his very poetic film ”Oh my darling” from 1978, which was nominated for an Oscar.
82-year old Kaj Pindal, who started his long life with cartoons in Denmark, and has resided in Canada since 1957, where he for many years has worked for the animation department of the National Film Board. He has given lectures in animation at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Toronto, and at the same time worked as an animator himself. Further, he has for the last years been a guest lecturer in Sweden and Denmark.
His Academy Award nominated film "What on Earth" from 1968, as well as his praised and great film ”I know an old lady who swallowed a fly” from 1964 will be presented at the gala.
”In the world of animation” - Kaj Pindal and his friend and teacher Børge Ring easy-going:
It is always entertaining and fun, when two of animation’s ”grand old men” meet on stage and tell anecdotes from the early years of cartoons and duel on their view on animation at the same time.
Homage speech for the two great Danish animation artists
Homage plaque
Special homage to the son of Ribe, Børge Ring, with the presentation of a homage plaque, which is to be placed at his childhood home in Ribe
Live jazz
